Can I tell my teacher about my feelings for her?

Hi, my name is Anna and I’m 18 years old, just about to graduate out of high-school. Like many teens, I have had a sustained crush on my teacher, problem is, she’s female. After graduating, I want to tell her how I feel, to get it off my chest and all. I can’t stop thinking about her, and I want to let her know. Would this be unwise? What should I do?

Andrea

Hi Anna,

Thanks for writing to Alterheros. Ultimately, it is only you who knows whether it is wise to speak to your teacher about having a crush on her. One thing that you might want to think about though, is that there is an inherent power imbalance in the student/teacher relationship, and that this might play into any interactions you have with her. She has her position as a teacher to consider, and this may affect how she responds to you confiding in her. Also, you may want to think about where this person is on same sex attractions. So, I don’t have a clear answer for you, but hopefully I have given you a few things to think about when making a decision about whether or not to talk with you teacher.

Best regards,

Andrea, AlterHeros
