Wow. You have no idea how much this helped me.
I remember being only 11 or 12 and questioning both gender and sexuality; naively saying to my mom ‘boys get the better end of the deal’ in respect to gender and it’s roles both in society and biology. But, until presently, I blissfully and ignorantly went along with what was the ‘norm’; all the while the question burning in the back of my brain.
The question came out subconsiously, I think, after years of me ignoring it. I’ve always felt gender is relative and only matters when you want it to, and a on-going joke I made with my friends about how I was ‘genderless under my clothes’ seemed to cement it. The wheels started turning in my brain and the latent ‘who the hell am I?’ question came back tenfold.
And naturally, being a teen, I went to the web for help.
I want to thank you so much for your story; you have no idea how much it opened my mind.

I know how it is my girlfriend is going through the process of telling her family that she isn’t going to be a girl much longer. It is hard enough to deal with my family not accepting the fact that I am gay but they also attack “him” I am so glad to know we aren’t the only ones because everyone around our area seems to be homophobic…
